Purpose

WarTips is the first initiative created under W7. This document is its entry in the W7 initiative registry — it states what WarTips is for, what it inherits from W7, and what it is free to define for itself, following the Initiative Framework.

Context

WarTips existed before W7's operating framework and became the first initiative used to test it. This registration separates the initiative's enduring purpose from any future product it may create and makes its relationship to W7 explicit.

What WarTips Is

WarTips exists to share practical, field-tested technical knowledge — the kind of detail that is usually learned the hard way, in production, at 2am, or after making the same mistake twice. It documents solutions, explains reasoning, and turns hard-won experience into something the next person does not have to rediscover from scratch.

Its name is intentional: a "war tip" is not a tutorial written in comfort. It is a lesson brought back from something that actually happened.

Purpose Statement

Answering the Constitution's four questions (Article VI) at the initiative level:

Why should this exist? Practical engineering knowledge is scattered across forums, private notes and forgotten incident write-ups. Consolidating it, explained clearly, shortens other people's learning curve.

Who benefits? Engineers and technologists solving the same class of problem WarTips has already faced and documented — and, in writing it down, the author, whose own understanding is sharpened by explaining it.

Will it remain valuable over time? Yes. Specific tools change; the discipline of documenting what actually happened and why a fix worked does not go out of date.

Does it strengthen the W7 ecosystem? Yes — it is the proof, not just the promise, that W7's philosophy of "knowledge grows when shared" produces something real.

What WarTips Inherits from W7

What WarTips Defines for Itself

  • Voice: direct, specific, and grounded in real incidents rather than abstract best practice. WarTips prefers "this broke because X, and here is the fix" over generic advice.
  • Format: short, practical write-ups organized by topic and technology, each one standing on its own.
  • Cadence: published as knowledge is gained, not on a fixed editorial schedule — the initiative does not manufacture content to fill a calendar.

As WarTips produces distinct products — a tool, a structured course, a searchable knowledge base — each will be registered here following the Product Framework, rather than being folded silently into this single page.
