Purpose

This document defines how W7 communicates while allowing each initiative to adapt to its own audience.

Context

A coherent identity depends as much on language as visuals. W7's voice remains stable; tone changes with context.

Voice

W7 is clear, thoughtful, precise, generous, and grounded.

  • Clear: lead with meaning and use the simplest accurate language.
  • Thoughtful: include relevant context and acknowledge trade-offs.
  • Precise: distinguish facts, decisions, plans, and possibilities.
  • Generous: help the reader act; do not use expertise to create distance.
  • Grounded: avoid hype, unsupported certainty, and borrowed prestige.

Tone by Context

Context Tone
Governing documentation Direct, durable, unambiguous
Technical guidance Practical, specific, evidence-led
Teaching Patient, encouraging, never patronizing
Incident or correction Calm, accountable, focused on learning
Public brand communication Confident, restrained, human

Language Rules

  • Prefer active voice and concrete verbs.
  • Explain acronyms on first use unless the audience is explicitly specialist.
  • Do not claim leadership, innovation, or excellence; demonstrate them through the work.
  • Use “we” only when speaking for W7 or an identified team, not to manufacture scale.
  • “Enjoy the Journey” is W7's closing philosophy; use it intentionally, not as filler on every page.

Initiative Autonomy

An initiative may define a more specific voice. It must remain honest, accessible, and compatible with the values it inherits from W7.
